Construction
Gives every player a private buildable island with its own chunks, sawmill, bank chest and teleport network, gating decoration blocks by level.
Construction gives you a private island and the blocks to build on it. Every level unlocks more blocks, and placing them is the only real source of XP. The island is the point: safe ground where nothing can hurt you, fitted out with a bank chest, a sawmill, a lectern for teleport tablets, a praying altar, a furnace, a crafting table and an anvil, all within a few steps of each other.
Level 1 to 120
Buy the highest-level block you can place, then place it. A level 1 block is 4 XP, a level 50 block about 15 and a level 95 block about 25, and they cost between roughly 10 and 63 coins each, so the grind is limited by clicking rather than by money. Utility blocks break that pattern: each is a single purchase worth between 400 and about 25,000 XP. Nothing new unlocks after 95.
- Stone, dirt and the sawmill 1 to 5
Buy building blocks from Zaff in Draynor and place them anywhere off the spawn pad. Grass, dirt, sand, stone, granite, diorite, andesite and the metal blocks are all level 1 at 4 XP a place. Put down a Sawmill 3000, bought from the Zaff in Seers' Village, as soon as you can afford it: 400 XP for one block.
- Wool, oak and the bank chest 5 to 20
Wool covers 5 to 20, one colour at a time from white to black, and comes from the Zaff in Al-Kharid. Oak logs build a full set at the sawmill, from logs at 5 up to fence gates at 21, and stone stairs and slabs open at 5 and 7. The Construction Bank Chest at level 5 is worth 480 XP and saves you leaving the island.
- Hardened clay, birch and the lectern 20 to 40
Hardened clay runs 20 to 35 and carpets 30 to 45, with stone brick stairs, slabs and walls at 20, 22 and 25 and sandstone half blocks from 30. Teak logs build the birch set from 15 to 31. The Lectern at 30 is 10,600 XP and unlocks teleport tablet crafting.
- Glazed terracotta and prismarine 40 to 60
Glazed terracotta covers 40 to 55 and stained glass panes 50 to 65, with red sandstone and prismarine half blocks filling 40 to 62. Spruce logs build the spruce set from 30 to 46 and sequoia logs the jungle set from 45 to 61, and bricks at 50 need clay.
- Concrete and the utility rush 60 to 80
Concrete powder runs 60 to 75 and concrete 70 to 85, cheap bulk that carries the whole band, with the dark oak set from yew logs at 60 to 76. The Smoker and the Cosmetic Bank Chest at 70 and the Praying Altar at 78 are worth roughly 20,000, 25,000 and 22,000 XP each.
- Shulker boxes, purpur and the last benches 80 to 95
Shulker boxes climb 80 to 95 and come from the Zaff in Varrock, purpur blocks open at 80 and pillars at 90, and acacia comes from magic logs at 75 to 91. The Auto Imbuer at 80, Crafting table at 85, Furnace at 90 and Anvil at 95 are the last one-off lumps, each over 20,000 XP.
- The top block, repeated 95 to 120
Nothing new unlocks after 95. The black shulker box is the highest block in the game, so settle on it and place it over and over at about 25 XP a time. Anything with a recipe is worth making at the sawmill first, since crafting pays another tenth of the block's XP.
Where the blocks are sold
There is a Zaff for every category and they are spread across the map, so plan the trip. Plain building blocks are in Draynor, coloured blocks in Al-Kharid, decoration and shulker boxes in Varrock, logs, planks, doors, fences and leaves at the Lumber Yard, slabs in Falador, stairs in Catherby, walls in Burgh de Rott, the utility benches in Seers' Village and holiday blocks at the Grand Exchange.
Levels 2, 3 and 4 are genuinely empty. Nothing unlocks at any of them, so the opening stretch is a straight run from 1 to 5 on the same handful of level 1 blocks.
Getting there and back
Your portal starts in Rimmington. A thousand coins at the Estate Agent moves it to Brimhaven, Pollnivneach, Rellekka, Taverley or Yanille, and owning an island unlocks the house teleport outright. Wiping the island back to bare ground costs five million.
You can drop in on other players and leave again with the visit and leave commands, and the Construction cape lets you fly while you are on your own island.
What the benches do
The chest opens a bank filtered down to blocks and building materials; the cosmetic chest opens one filtered to cosmetics. The sawmill turns logs, stone, clay and bars into blocks. The lectern makes teleport tablets against both your Magic and Construction levels, using a piece of clay per tablet, and pays Magic XP rather than Construction XP.
Worth knowing
- The island costs 100,000 coins from the Estate Agent. Until you buy it the portal will simply refuse you.
- You break blocks with a hammer rather than by hand, and what you get back is a broken version that pays no XP when replaced. There is no recycling.
- Blocks with a recipe are worth crafting at the sawmill instead of buying: you get a tenth of the placement XP for the craft, and shop stock for those blocks is limited while plain blocks are not.
- You cannot train any other skill while standing on an island, yours or anyone else's, and nothing there can damage you.
